American Cichlid Association
American Cichlid Association Logo The American Cichlid Association (ACA), www.cichlid.org, was founded in 1966 by a dedicated group of cichlidophiles, originated by Al Klee and Dick Stratton, along with our very own Dr. Paul V. Loiselle. The ACA remains today’s leader in international cichlid organizations with its mission to gather, organize, and disseminate knowledge of cichlids (Family Cichlidae), to promote fellowship among the members, and to further conservation of species and their natural habitats. The ACA is the largest, most widespread member of CARES, ACA CARES, and among the program’s greatest supporters, particularly in the field of CARES for Education.
The ACA Paul V. Loiselle Conservation Fund was erected n 2000, and reached a milestone for the ACA in 2007, awarding its first grant to Allison Peace, which will assist in her research on “Evolutionary Ecology of Cichlid Assemblages in the Usumacinta Region, México,” garnering valuable information that will ultimately prove beneficial to the conservation of the cichlids of Mexico. Warm congratulations to Allison, who offers an overview of her studies in the December 2007 issue of the ACA’s journal, Buntbarsche Bulletin, issue # 243. Heartfelt appreciation to those whose enormous endeavors played an invaluable role in bringing this first awarding to reality, particularly the Babes in the Cichlid Hobby, as well as the Bermuda Fry-Angle Society and www.Cichlid-forum.com, and most especially -- you! Please let us continue forward in the name of the Paul V. Loiselle Conservation Fund, for in the end, of course, it is the cichlids who win! For further information on how you can participate in the Paul V. Loiselle Conservation Fund, and ACA CARES., please visit the ACA at www.cichlid.org.
For total fulfillment of the hobby, there is nothing equal to being a part of an organization such as the ACA, and the camaraderie of exchanging ideas with others that have a common interest. The ACA is a dedicated group of aquarists who are always more than happy to share their varied experiences, talents, and knowledge -- regardless of whether you are a beginner or advanced hobbyist. Being involved with such a special group of individuals as those in the ACA is certain to be rich in rewards for you, and for your CARES fish! Be certain to visit www.cichlid.org to find out more, and for information on the extraordinary annual ACA convention! I so look forward to seeing you there!

LKMS AQUA HAVENS CARES
Lime Kiln Middle School LogoThe students and faculty at Lime Kiln Middle School took on an impressive role in aquatic conservation as their innovative Aqua Havens Program, under the exceptional guidance of instructor Bob Keddell, were asked to flagship the C.A.R.E.S. for Education Program. Fish at risk, donated through the generosity of renowned collectors and hobbyists across the country, arrive at the school to be met by the enthusiasm, and meticulously planned aquariums, of the students of LKMS Aqua Havens CARES. These species at risk, some already possessing the unfortunate distinction of being extinct in the wild, could not be in more exceptional hands. It is with great pride that the C.A.R.E.S. for Education Program welcomes the students and faculty of Lime Kiln Middle School as its flagship, Aqua Havens CARES!

AFISH
AFish LogoWhen highly respected aquarist Joe Ferdenzi, with his experience of 40 years, and deep passion for the past, present, and future of our hobby, realized that Long Island has a wealth of aquarium societies and no large annual convention, he felt that something needed to be offered within a reasonable distance to those who reside on the Island and the outlying areas. Joe, along with Al DiSpigna and Joseph Graffagnino, past and current Presidents of the Brooklyn Aquarium Society, Michael Foran, President of the Nassau Aquarium Society, and Arie Gilbert, President of the Long Island Aquarium Society, joined together to form AFISH, the Aquarium Federation of Independent Societies and Hobbyists. After two years of meticulous planning, along with the help of many enthusiastic assistants, the first AFISH Convention was held in Riverhead, Long Island, NY, on November 9th ~ 11th 2007. This was only minutes away from the famed Atlantis Marine World Aquarium which so generously offered free admission to the first 100 registrants. Brimming with an unmatched warmth and camaraderie of fellow hobbyists, AFISH was an enormous success!
CARES has been overwhelmed by news of the immense kindness of AFISH organizers to be named as recipient of the awarding of conservation funds generated throughout the event. Truly heartfelt words of appreciation to AFISH for your wonderful, generous support and care for the future of our youth, and our fishes at risk!
Please be certain to visit AFISH to make your convention plans for the 2008 convention at www.AFISHconvention.org. I can barely wait to see you there!

NEC
NEC LogoThe C.A.R.E.S. Preservation Program is honored and sincerely grateful to the Northeast Council of Aquarium Societies (NEC) to have been chosen as the recipient of funds accrued through the 50th Anniversary Celebration Rare and Endangered Species Silent Auction proceeds at the annual NEC Convention, an event which is held at the Farmington Marriott in Hartford, Connecticut each spring. These resources have been a tremendous benefit in the development of C.A.R.E.S. for Education, assisting in the purchase of supplies, and the cost of shipping fish to our flagship, LKMS Aqua Havens CARES, in Fulton, MD. We are so thankful to the NEC Conservation Committee for choosing C.A.R.E.S. as the 2006 recipient! The tremendous time and efforts that the committee placed into the silent auction for the benefit of the C.A.R.E.S. Preservation Program is truly appreciated! A warm and heartfelt thank you to the NEC for thinking of us, and for their generous support of CARES! The NEC Annual Convention is one that you certainly will not want not miss! Please logon to www.northeastcouncil.org to find out more!

Montauk-Online.com
Montauk-Online.comA special word of deep appreciation to www.Montauk-Online.com, and John Craft, who has taken on the hosting of this website, and the numerous technical issues that it entails, most particularly working with me as a team and putting up with my obsession with minutiae. For years, John has been there for me, whether it be day or night, through my store, my wet/dry filter setups, my air systems, moving my entire fishroom and all of my many fish, and here he is, once again, giving of himself to bring all of us the opportunity of connecting and sharing through this, the CARES Preservation Program website. A warm and heartfelt thank you, John!

A warm thank you to our Special Friends of CARES!
